Basic Description
Pamphobeteus sp Equador II aka Bronze Bloom Birdeater is native to Peru. Their main diet are insects and sometimes small animals. The sp equador II usually start out with a christmas tree pattern in the back as a sling but unlike other pamphos, the equador II retains the christmas tree pattern but it just get darker when it becomes adult. In addition, it also have lavender high lights instead of purple like othe pampho sp. The carapace of the equador II has the same pattern of an X intermedia but the carapace is bronze instead of blue. They grow up to 7-8". they are bulky and very colorful spider. The male is even more beautiful because the male has purple bluish legs and gold carapace.
Temperament
One of the best advance pet tarantulas. Most individuals are very nervous and kick hairs sometimes they will make a threat pose if they feel cornered. They are usually out from their house or burrow which is perfect as a display pet. From 1 to 10, 10 being the most aggressive this specie is at 7-8 out of ten when it comes to temperament.
Diet
In captivity they usually feed on crickets, roaches, mice, small reptiles and amphibians. They only eat once or twice a week. Depending on the size of the abdomen of the tarantula, they can survive for weeks without eating.
Housing
Tarantulas can be house in different size containers. 1 inch tarantula can be house in a deli cup. 3-5 inch can be house in a 5 gallon tank. 6 inch and above can be house in a 10 gallon tank. They can also be house in a shoe box to save space.
Tarantulas need moist substrate so that their book lungs will not dry out. Any of the following substrate can be use, vermiculite, sphagnum moss, cocofiber and orchid bark.
Water dish is required, not a lot of people know but tarantulas drink too. Make sure that the water dish is clean at all times to stop the development of bacteria in the tarantula cage.
This tarantula requires more moisture and humidity than other species because their natural habitat is in tropical jungles. If the don’t get enough moisture they start developing problems like bad molting and dehydration.
Growth Rate
This specie grow fast, with daily feeding they can reach adulthood from 2-3 years in captivity.
Special Feature
One of the few Pamphobeteus that can retain their Christmas tree pattern in their abdomen. They also have a very beautiful carapace. males and females look different once they mature each with their own special traits.
