Recently some of the species from the Brachypelma genus were move to Tliltocatl to futher distinguish them in a more detailed manner regarding their characteristics and attribute. Base from my years of experience working on this genus the biggest difference Tliltocatl has from Brachypelma is their growth rate. Some of the species of Tliltocatl grows faster than most Brachypelma species. In addition, Tliltocatl genus has tarantulas that also varies in size from 5" - 8" depending on the species. Each species from this genus have great dark and red colorations. Their behavior are more docile compare to other genus. Most of the species from this genus get to a good size and mature faster. The average Tliltocatl reach sexual maturity in about seven years in the wild and it takes 30-40 years for them to grow to full size (6"-8"). Also, like other slow growing species, once females become sexually mature they usually switch their molting cycle to every 2 years, instead of the usual annual molt. When they become really old, perhaps in their late thirties or forties, they switch to molting every three years. Keeping a Tliltocatl is like keeping some sort of national treasure. This Genus has a potential to out live you so be sure to write it into your Last Will and Testament! If your looking for a pet tarantula that you like to grow with, this is the perfect pet for you. Below are list of the species from this genus. my oldest one is 20 years old at the moment, 2020 :)
